My name is Karthick and this incident happened to me when I was a kid.

We actually were living in Chennai which happens to be city in South India.I had finished my second grade in school and was having a holiday break during the summers.

Our family and one of our neighbors were planning to have a tour of some sort for a long time and finally we decided to arrange a tour to Kerela. Our tour included all the important places and locales in Kerala worth seeing.

We arranged a big van to accommodate both the families and headed on our trip. As part of the tour arrangements the first place we were supposed to see was a place called Cochin, which has beautiful beaches and also other landmarks worth seeing.

We had left our homes the previous evening and arrived at Cochin in the morning. We booked a room at one of the popular hotels in Cochin and left our baggage and other things in the room deciding to start our sightseeing adventure. We had a great time at the beaches taking in the sun, playing in the waves, and collecting sea shells.

We returned to the hotel in the evening and decided to see the other places in the morning. The hotel was quite huge and the room where we were staying was located at the top floor.

There was this elevator in the building and it was kind of modern. It sped from floor to floor in a matter of seconds. It was so cool!

As kids, this was a great discovery. We decided to ride the elevator for fun!

Up and down the elevator we went. What a great joy ride to experience. After about 30 trips the elevator got jammed at the ground floor due to some malfunctions. We wondered what could have happened to cause such a thing.

We were shocked when we found, to our horror, the doors would not open! Instantly, we started yelling. Hotel personnel rushed to our aid. They pressed an external button and got us out.

Fortunately, we were not questioned and nobody made a huge issue out of the incident. We were freed!

As kids, we just couldn't let our new discovery alone. It was too much fun. Therefore, before retiring to our rooms one night, we decided to have one last ride - figuring we'd avoid getting stuck if we pushed different buttons this time.

Wouldn't you just know it.....after several fun rides that darn elevator malfunctioned again!

We were trapped. This time it was different, because we were below ground in the basement. We screamed at the top of our lungs, but nobody heard us. We were in utter panic. We were in utter panic. It turns out, this warehouse like basement was not visited too often. Finally, Our rescuer arrive in the form of the nightly security person who was performing his rounds.

We were so grateful to breathe fresh air again - changes forever by the experience. We learnt a valuable lesson this day. While it's great to have fun; be careful when you know you are doing something wrong. Just because you can get away with something once doesn't mean you can get a way with it again. More importantly, the consequences worsen each time you do it.

To this day, I use my experience as inspiration when bad choices and actions are before me. I think twice and then think again. My wish is that you use my story as inspiration. Stay away from bad situations when you can. Do not be lulled by temporary fun or good times. You can end up paying a bigger price than expected.

During my engineering days I had a friend called Prasad. He was really a genius. He was always ready to help others without bothering about the results.

Once we had our semester exams during the month of March in 2003. Me and Prasad used to study together and planned a study session the night before the exam. Suddenly, an old lady who lives near Prasad got sick. Nobody was there to help that old lady so Prasad and I took her to the hospital and spent the entire night with her.

Next day we had to attend our semester exam. We reached the exam hall 30 minutes late. Quickly, we started writing our paper. But we could not answer all the questions and time had run out.

We asked the Instructor to give us more time, but was denied. Still, we tried to take advantage of every precious minute that we could. We kept writing while others turned in their exams. By that time the Instructor was arranging the papers of other students, we finished. wouldn't you know that darn Instructor refused to take our papers. I was nervous, but Prasad was calm. At first he distracted the Instructor by asking did he know our names. The Instructor got irritated and said, "you people are not famous to be recognized by your names.” While the Instructor kept at his arrogant position, Prasad mingled our exams with all others. Since the Instructor didn't know our names, he couldn't tell our papers from those submitted timely. We both passed that semester.

From our experience, I was inspired. You see, when you have courage to put the needs of others before your own, God will help you. He'll help you find answers you may have otherwise missed.

Humorous and Inspirational Stories - Lost in the Woods

It was the last day of school and me and my friends wanted to make the best plans we could to start the summer off right. Therefore, we decided to have a bonfire in the woods near the back of my house. These woods go about ten miles back, so I knew nothing about them.

My friend, Brad, and I were in charge of getting the firewood for the bonfire. My other friends were in charge of drinks, marsh mellows, chocolate, and other foods. My girlfriend was going to bring her guitar, because she is very musically talented. I was stoked. After all, who does not love guitar by the camp fire?!

So, we decided to take my vehicle out into the woods to gather firewood. When we cut the tree down, we did not calculate where it was going to fall. So, when Brad yelled "timberrrrr" we watched in horror as the tree totally destroyed the vehicle.

Needless to say, we just happened to be at the far end of the woods. We had to walk 9.6 miles to get back to my house. It took us about 9 hours to get home because it was pitch dark, and we had no sense of direction.

The night was an adventure. But I learned we had various wildlife forms living in my backyard. I also discovered 3 deserted cars with 50 dollars in one of them. We also found old grave tombstones and a deserted hut with old cooking pots and an unmade bed.

Lesson learned, when cutting down a tree, always make sure anything and everything is cleared away from the falling tree. Oh yeah, when life throws you a detour, there are hidden treasures and discoveries to be found. Simply open your eyes and enjoy the journey.

I remember an incident when I was in Hangzhou, China. I wanted a lab coat for my friend. He is a doctor. So, I went out in search of it.

I went inside a drug store and asked the clerk where I could find a lab coat. I did not speak the language and the Clerk did not speak English so I struggled to make him understand what I wanted. Finally, after few minutes of hard work and crazy gestures, he understood, but indicated they did not stock lab coats.

I was about to leave. However, the Clerk stopped me. Indicating that ne know a place with lab coats. He closed his shop and came with me. After 30 minutes of walking I was getting tired. Finally, we reached the place and I got a lab coat.

The Clerk then he took me outside to a juice shop and offered me a juice. I tried to stop him, but he insisted. Then he hired a taxi. Once I returned to my hotel, the taxi driver would not take a fare, because the Clerk paid it.

In my entire life, I have never received such hospitality. It was funny when I think about all the things me and this clerk went through to get a lab coat. But I am amazed and inspired that such special people still exist on earth. I'll never forget that guy in my life.

Humorous and Inspirational Stories - A Friend's Funny Surrender!

This inspiring story is about a friend of mine who lives in India and works for an IT company. His name is Bret.

At one time, Bret faced a dilemma and asked for my advice. He wanted to know how and when he would make a move to kiss his girlfriend. I told him it's about setting the mood and timing. Where Bret got the idea to carry a bell on his next date with his girlfriend, I'll never know.

Here is what happened. Bret called his girlfriend and asked her to meet him at a nearby park. They sit a bench and start to talk when suddenly.....his bell goes off! He set it to ring after 30 minutes. He then grabs his girlfriend and kisses her hard. Unfortunately, they toppled into a nearby bush. Unfortunately patrolling cops see them and take them to the police station.

My friend calls up me, because the police will not release them until they pay a fine. Later, we all met and started laughing over the incident. However, things are now strained between my friend and his girlfriend.

Only this time, he doesn't want my advice on how to make amends. Fortunately, all on his own, the couple reconciled.

So what's the lesson? sometimes your better off following your own instincts instead of listening to others. Secondly, you can make amends for stupid actions. Sometimes the best medicine is to laugh about it and move on.
