A New Leaf

He came to my desk with quivering lip -

The lesson was done.

"Dear Teacher, I want a new leaf," he said,

"I have spoiled this one."

I took the old leaf' stained and blotted,

And gave him a new one all unspotted,

And onto his sad eyes smiled,

"Do better, now, my child."

I went to the throne with a quivering soul -

The old year was done.

"Dear Father, have you a new leaf for me?

I have spoiled this one."

He took the old leaf, stained and blotted,

And into my sad heart smiled,

"Do better, now, my child."

New Every Morning

This I call to mind

and therefore I have hope:

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,

for his compassions never fail.

They are new every morning:

great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:21 - 23

The Light

Even in the uttermost depths of the darkness,

I see before me your light of hope,

your light of faith,

and your light of love

burning deep within me,

Giving me

an unspeakable,

peaceful,

assurance,

knowing you will perform

what you have spoken.
